(1.8cm tall) Here is a very happy, loving, and gentle little Shinto Jizo sculpture. I think this one might be a girl ... she just radiates quiet joy and peace and makes me feel so happy when I see her. Like I can breathe and smile again. She would be lovely as a companion or on a kamidana shrine.
She has been fired once, glazed with non-toxic glaze, and raku fired with natural wood shavings for the amazing gifts of smoke and flame.
Jizo is a Japanese Shinto spirit, a kami who found his way to Japan through Buddhism. He is a guardian of women, children, and travellers; he comforts us through grief and bereavement.
Through my work, I hope to bring a little nature, peace, and gentleness into the world. I make all of my pieces entirely by hand with only non-toxic material.
