(2cm tall) Here is a little pocket Shinto Jizo of earth, glazed in warm brown and violet. He's a Jizo of possibility, of potential, of the fertile earth just waiting for spring to come again. He's also very happy! This little one would be lovely for a kamidana or shrine.
He has been fired once, glazed in a warm golden yellow along with hints of fresh green and turquoise, and then raku fired with natural wood shavings for the amazing gifts of smoke and flame.
Jizo is a Japanese Shinto spirit, a kami who found his way to Japan through Buddhism. He is a guardian of women, children, and travellers; he comforts us through grief and bereavement.
Through my work, I hope to bring a little nature, peace, and gentleness into the world. I make all of my pieces entirely by hand with only non-toxic material.
