Here is a magical-feeling raku spirit cottage (or fairy house!) decorated with flower patterns. This one feels very alive and full of character, like it has lots of wonderful stories to tell. It's carved in the kurinuki technique and would be beautiful as an incense holder for small cones or short sticks, as a shrine or altar decoration, or just to hold some precious treasures.
*Please note that the roof is glazed to look like thatch, and just like a real thatched roof, one side is darker than the other. (Thatch fades in the sun!) You can see from the photos what the roof looks like both ways round. And while it was made for the darker side to be at the front of the house, it is possible to have the darker side at the back if you place the roof carefully and balance it well.*
The base of the house is 8cm long by 6.5cm wide and 3.5cm tall. With the roof on, the whole thing is 10.2cm long by 8.3cm wide and approximately 9.3cm tall. The roof lifts off easily. If you wish to burn incense inside, please be aware that the smoke will drift out gently through the chimney and a little from under the roof too. I find it a lovely, calming effect.
This spirit cottage is made of stoneware, glazed with non-toxic glaze, and raku fired for the beautiful effects of flame and smoke. It can live outside if it's in a dry place, but I would recommend bringing it indoors during winter as it's not frost proof.
*Please note that all spirit houses are sent insured!*
Through my work, I hope to bring a little nature, peace, gentleness, and spirit to the world. I make all of my pieces entirely by hand with natural materials.
(I am happy to combine postage on all items. Please either message me before you order and I can create a custom listing, or just order and I'll refund any excess postage fees. Thank you.)
