These little nature spirit Shinto priests, or maybe Buddhist monks, have begun to come to me through the clay, and I really love them! This one is a monk of forests and wild places, of shafts of sunlight through green canopies and old logs covered in soft moss. He feels contented and wise, at peace and connected to the nature that is his home. We could all learn from him, I think.

He is 4.9cm tall, and he comes with his little wishing bowl (in light green, to match his mittens). This little one (maybe he is a Jizo monk?) is made of stoneware, fired once, glazed in non-toxic glaze, and raku fired. But! He has been raku fired in a way a little more akin to the more traditional Japanese way than to the Western way: so he has not been exposed to smoke or flame.

Through my work, I hope to bring a little nature, peace, and gentleness into the world. I make all of my pieces entirely by hand with only natural materials.
