Here is a sweet, curious, and innocent bear cub kami spirit statue. I was trying to make a fox, and it kept looking like it was hinting at a bear. I just couldn't get it to look right, and I suddenly asked the clay, "Why don't you look like a fox?" The reply came instantly in my head: "Because I don't want to be a fox!"
Ok, I thought, let's see what you want to be. And within a minute or two, out came this little bear cub! When I glazed him, he seemed to want to be sunny and the colour of honey, so here he is. :-)
This wonderful bear sculpture is 4.8cm tall. He's made from stoneware clay and has been fired once, glazed, and then raku fired for the amazing gifts of smoke and flame.
Through my work, I hope to bring a little nature, peace, gentleness, and spirit to the world. I make all of my pieces entirely by hand with only natural materials.
